Reiki in Nashville TN

Reiki is the name that was given to an accessible but profound method of healing the body and emotions. “Rei” means “Universal” and “Ki” or “Chi” in Chinese, means “Life Force Energy”. Reiki is actually energy and not a modality although we interchange the word usage for the sake of simplicity.

Most people are unable to actually see chi, but we define it as the circulating life force which exists everywhere, in everything. The understanding of this energy is not unlike

our perception of electricity. We know it is there, and we understand its power, but when we use it to turn on our lights we trust it to work without actually seeing it. In Eastern philosophies Chi is described as an electrical type of energy that animates the body and determines it’s state of health. When Chi or Ki departs the body, physical life has ended.

The laying on of hands to relieve pain and to comfort is as old as instinct, predating recorded history. Human touch conveys healing, warmth and calm, and this simple act is the basis for all touch healing techniques. Reiki, described as a system for healing, was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui who lived in Japan during the nineteenth century.

The person who is attuned as a Reiki practitioner or therapist has had his or her body’s energy channels balanced and cleared by the Reiki attunements. The life force can be visualized as vibration. The Reiki therapist is practiced in the ability to raise her vibration and by touching her client, especially at the energy centers, chakras, or meridians, is able to increase the vibration and the flow of chi, enhancing the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Very often, this is accompanied by a greater sense of well-being, relaxation, and re-balancing. Reiki healing can even be done from a distance.

At Align, Reiki sessions are done in the tranquility of the ALIGN massage room. It is unnecessary to remove clothing. There will be time for the client to discuss any concerns or expectations about the treatment, and time for feedback post-treatment. A Reiki session should be a positive and relaxing experience with every effort made to ensure the comfort of the client. Reiki is non-invasive and is appropriate for everyone, in any state of health.

According to a national survey published in 2002, more than 2.2 million Americans had already experienced or practiced Reiki. Reiki is offered in prominent medical centers across the country (and locally) a small number of which include: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and New York-Presbyterian Hospital (N.Y.) Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (Boston, Mass.) Yale-New Haven Hospital (New Haven, Conn.) Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System (Baltimore, Md.) M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, Tex.) George Washington University Hospital (Washington, D.C.) California Pacific Medical Center (San Francisco, Calif.)

Reiki is also used in hospice care as a gentle and loving ministration to ease end of life processes.

Reiki is universal life force energy and can only be used positively. It is impossible to use Reiki in a controlling or negative way.

Anyone who feels serious about or has the desire can learn Reiki and it is our pleasure to offer the attunements at Align with Reiki Nashville Master Teacher Mary Ann Stuart. Mary Ann completed her training with Reiki Master Teacher Mary McDaniel, academic director at Cumberland Institute for Holistic Healing. The institute offers Reiki as a continuing education choice for massage therapists.

Attunement classes are divided into two consecutive six hour classes held on weekends. We offer First and Second degree Reiki.
